In my sustained investigation, I explore the worth of one hundred dollars in various countries. The necessity of money and it's worth, dependent on location in the world, has always fascinated me. There are 180 different currencies in the world and my investigation demonstrates how life is fueled by money, but the society around us is defining the value of the money.
The exploration of my idea reveals as I depict items I can buy, from Russia to Australia to Romania, for one hundred dollars. From a can of caviar, in piece three, to a three-course meal, in piece nine, one hundred dollars can look extremely different depending on where you are in the world. I wanted to exemplify the monetary differences countries can have based on the population that lives there and the way of life. In piece ten, I show how jeans cost one hundred dollars in Dubai, but in piece number six, you can fill up a whole truck full of gas in China. This shows how societal differences vary from country to country as well as the impact of these differences. The world we live in today is fueled by money but the society around us is defining the value of the money.

This week I finished up my last piece! I love the tone of this painting and the colors as well. I think the blue jeans give a nice contrast. This piece is symbolizing the Levi's you can buy in Dubai.
This week I finished piece number 9! I can't believe there is only one more piece to go! This piece is a watercolor representation of traditional Mexican style dresses. In the background, I wanted to emulate a market place with frames, plates and other wall art hung up! I love how this piece turned out. I also used microns after to give more definition to the shapes.
This past week I worked on a watercolor piece. This piece shows Russian Caviar in the tin. This was my first watercolor piece and I had fun doing it. I really like the color scheme I picked as well. I think the blue and yellows work together really well. I also like the contrast in the background since it gets progressively darker in the corners which helps to highlight the caviar.
This week I finished two pieces. I finished the piece of silk pieces by Thailand and coral necklaces in Grenada. One piece was done in oil and the second was done digitally. I really enjoyed working on both of these pieces and I liked the result of both of them. I wished I had used more vibrant colors in my Thailand pieces though, however, I like the results of the piece!
This week I did another digital piece as well as working on an oil painting on class. The digital piece is finished, I tried to build up the complexity of the color but I didn't like the look of it so I decided to leave it with more contrast. Overall, I like the piece, it is not my favorite however, I put a lot of time and effort into it to make it the best it could be. The oil painting, I am working on is piece number 6. I am working on painting Thai silk which is taking more time than anticipated however, I am happy with the results thus far.
This week I finished up my digital art piece! This piece is by far my favorite piece yet. I wanted to give it a cartoon-like look and I think I really achieved that. I think the composition is really simple however, I think the style of it fits in perfectly. I also began piece number 5 by priming my canvas and starting my sketches!
This week I began my first piece that is not a painting. I started my fourth piece which is a digital art piece of wine bottles. In Lima, Peru you can buy 5 (really nice!) wines for $100. I am not even close to being done however; I have really enjoyed working digitally since it has been a nice change of pace. I'm excited about hopefully finishing this piece this week! I also primed my fifth canvas for this coming week.
This week I worked solely on my leather shoes piece in hopes of finishing it. I wasn't able to but I did make a huge amount of progress. I really like the value and depth in the color on the leather shoes. I used a yellow background because I wanted it to be vibrant to offset the darker shoes. I also decided to include two vases in the back to add some other elements in the composition. Once again, I wanted bright colors to offset the bottom half of the painting and create some contrast.
This week I finished my second piece and primed my canvas for my third piece. My second piece was a truck getting filled up with gas in china. My third piece is going to be a pair of leather shoes. I am happy with how my second piece turned out. I worked with a lot of darker, rusty colors and I like the overall color scheme and compostition of the piece.
